Colonia and Montevideo Uruguay
OverviewFor the first two days of this tour you’ll be treated to an exciting tour of two fabulous old Uruguayan cities, Coloniadel Sacramento, declared an UNESCO World Heritage city, and Montevideo, the capital. In Colonia you’ll embark upon a private walking tour wandering old cobbled streets, forts, Spanish and Portuguese museums, the port, downtown, the delightful Coastal Rambla and even the Ferrando Beach. There will also be a chance to take in the city’s bullring and the race.
Then it’s on to Montevideo and a tour of hotspots such as Independence Square, the Legislative Palace, a traditional Prado neighbourhood, the residential zone of Carrasco, the Old City and a host of wonderful old streets and impressive buildings. Save some energy though for the afternoon tour to the vineyards of Montevideo, where we will be able to taste the superb Uruguayan wine Tannat. The next stage of the six-day trip heads to one of the world’s top beach resorts, Punta del Este. People watching is almost obligatory, especially if you like to spot a celebrity or two!
A guided tour will ensure you visit all the must–see attractions, too, including San Antonio Hill in Piriápolis and Casapueblo, a strange construction designed by the famous Uruguayan artist Carlos Páez Vilaró, Juan Gorlero Street, the port and its fabulous yachts, as well as a trip across the bridge of “La Barra". The beaches of Mansa and Brava make great destinations for relaxing and soaking up the exclusive atmosphere of Punta del Este.
