Luxurious Uruguay


This relaxing and luxurious tour begins in charismatic Colonia where you will take a tour of numerous areas of historical interest and wander through the beautiful streets of this enchanting city. The following morning you travel through gorgeous countryside to get to Narbona and Irurtia wineries, where you can learn all about wine making and sample some of the best wines of the area whilst enjoying the idyllic scenery. Followed by a gourmet lunch, this is the perfect day!

The capital, Montevideo is next with two stops on the way - the first being “La Brida” blue cheese manufacturing establishment where you can try some amazing cheeses and Juanico Winery for wine tasting in a beautiful setting. Take a city tour of some important sites of Montevideo and sample a traditional “asado” (BBQ) lunch! Head into the countryside surrounding Montevideo for another excellent wine tasting experience.

After a visit to a pleasant wildlife reserve, the tour moves along to the famous Punta Este - known for it's incredible beaches and luxury lifestyle this place is a paradise, take some time to relax. Your final days are spend in a luxury Estancia (ranch) where there are numerous activities you can take part in, such as horse riding, trekking, cattle rodeos, but with plenty of relaxation, wine and pampering too!


Day 1: Arrival - Colonia
Your private transfer will welcome you at the port of Colonia (ferries arriving/departing to/from Buenos Aires) and transport you to a luxury hotel and spa.

Day 2: Colonia
You will be picked up at your hotel, to go on a Private Colonia City tour. Among the sites you’ll be visiting are the San Carlos Bullfight Arena, the San Benito Chapel, Horse Racetrack, the Power Plant, Dock and Colonia’s West coast and beaches, as well as the neighborhoods and shopping areas. You will then continue on to the pedestrian only city’s historic site, the Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1995. The walk will take you around the Old District of Colonia where you will see several points of interest like the old city gates and the “Street of Sighs”. There’ll be a stop at the Main Square, then the ruins of the San Francisco Church (the oldest ruins in Uruguay), the Lighthouse, Governor’s House, the Sacramento Basilica and other attractive sites along the way. It’ll be an educating walk through a tranquil area, that provides visitors with knowledge on the city’s history.

Day 3: Colonia
You will be picked up from the hotel to go on a Private Wine Tour (with tasting!) at Irurtia and Narbona Wineries in Carmelo. Narbona and Irurtia wineries are a pair of quaint complexes and a joy to visit. Amidst a collection of antiques and lovely surroundings you’ll learn all about wine production and have the chance to taste and purchase their products.

Day 4: Colonia - Montevideo
After breakfast, check out and a private transfer will drive you to the capital city Montevideo. On your way, you’ll stop at “La Brida” blue cheese manufacturing establishment, for great cheese tasting. La Brida is the only producer of this type of cheese in Uruguay. After the visit to La Brida, the tour will stop at Juanicó Winery. Located in a beautiful setting with a plethora of wildlife and scenic views you spend the day wine tasting followed by a lovely 3-course lunch with suggested paired wines. On arrival in Montevideo you will be taken to your hotel then have the evening to explore the area.

Day 5: Montevideo
After breakfast, your tour will take you on the trail of a legend - the Admiral Graf Spee. The dramatic destiny of the legendary German battle ship “Admiral Graf Spee”, is still alive in Montevideo and we will follow its story, visiting the most important buildings which suddenly became the centre of the world’s attention back in December of 1939. As you move through the city, you’ll be able to appreciate the different styles of architecture, squares, parks and monuments. From the top of the “Cerro”, Montevideo’s landmark hill, we will have a splendid view of the bay and the town’s skyline. The last stop of the tour will be at the Naval Museum, which showcases different items salvaged from the German ship and river bottom, like a 150 mm cannon and the German ship’s telemetric equipment. A traditional “asado” (BBQ) lunch awaits at the Mercado del Puerto (Port Market). After lunch, you will be driven back to the hotel along the coastline road. The rest of the afternoon is at your leisure.

Day 6: Montevideo
Today, you will be picked up from the hotel lobby and drive through the countryside to visit a boutique winery. Here you will have a full tour of the beautiful grounds, wine tasting and a wine workshop. During the workshop you will have the opportunity to design your own blend with the help of the winemakers! This is followed by a delicious lunch.

Day 7: Montevideo - Punta del Este
In the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel lobby taken to experience the nature of the wetlands! This private nature reserve extends over 130 hectares, where native flora and fauna are protected. It is
located between the hills and the sea, in Bella Vista, Maldonado. The tour today first takes you through the Wetlands, along “Sendero Blanco”, where you will have a chance to observe plants and birds from the comfort of a raised boardwalk. You can see capybaras resting in the woods, swimming or grazing. The tour continues to the Native Forest where you enter a special microclimate and will have the opportunity to taste some plants and learn about their secrets, such as interesting medicinal uses! A short hike then leads to the Grasslands, from where they will enjoy a magnificent view of the surrounding countryside and hills. Later, the tour takes you into the Native Plant Nursery and greenhouse (“Vivero”), where original wooden sculptures turn the “Vivero” into a truly magical place! After the tour, transfer to your 5-star hotel in Punta del Este.

Day 8: Montevideo - Punta del Este
Spend the whole day at leisure in the beautiful coastal city of Punta del Este. Punta del Este's scenic coastline is divided in two: the rough, or “Brava” side (Spanish for "fierce") and the “Mansa” side (Spanish for "tame"). A little bit further away to the East, La Barra is a popular area for nautical sports and fishing during the day if this interests you, or you can just relax on the beach with a cocktail!

Day 9: Punta del Este
Today, enjoy a city tour of the beautiful city of Punta del Este. The tour will start by driving through the city's residential districts as it takes you to the magnificent beach areas of Playa Mansa and Playa Brava. It will then drive through the tree-lined residential districts of San Rafael, Cantegril and Beverly Hills. One interesting feature of Punta del Este is that visitors can actually see the sunrise and sunset in the same waters due to its location on a peninsula that extends into the ocean a beautful sight to see whilst in this stunning area. Your tour will continue inland on Camino Lussich, in direction to Nonno Antonio. We will pass the house-museum of Antonio Lussich and the Arboretum he planted in Punta Ballena. The Arboretum is the largest in the country and one of the most important in South America. It lies on the slope of the La Ballena hills, and contains a unique collection of over 67 species of native and exotic trees. Next head to a wonderful artisan-cheese business where you can taste, among others, Mascarpone and Gorgonzola cheeses together with home made breads,
excellent olive oil and wines. To top it all off, the owner Marisa serves her delicious Tiramisu as well!

Day 10: Punta del Este
A few minutes north from Punta del Este on the scenic Route 12, you will arrive at Viña Eden (Eden´s Vineyard), a naturally beautiful place! Fulfilling a dream of natural living, the owners here make natural wines and serve and eat only organic food grown on the site. They generate only wind and solar energy that runs the whole vineyard. At Viña Edén enjoy a typical Uruguayan Parrilla of “Uruguay Natural Club” hormone free grass fed meats, which are tender and flavourful. The lunch includes a traditional barbecue with wine tasting: Includes homemade breads, natural regional meats, organic salads, desert, mineral water, coffee and tea.

Day 11: Punta del Este - Rocha
In the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel to go to Rocha where you will check in at a local Estancia (ranch). The Estancia offers optional activities like horseback riding, photo safaris, trekking, cattle rodeo, milking, etc. Historic tours to nearby Santa Teresa Fort, San Miguel Fort as well as trips over to seaside resorts such as La Paloma, La Pedrera or the Ombú Tree Forest tour area available also.

Day 12: Rocha
You have the day to yourself to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the Estancia and engage in any activities you wish or just relax with a glass of best Uruguayan wine!

Day 13: Departure
After breakfast you will be picked up from your hotel and transferred to the Airport to bid farewell to Uruguay.

    International Flights
    Getting to Uruguay is straightforward from most areas of the world, but you may find that the choice is bewildering, or you’re not sure about the easiest route. Tango Tours are experienced in planning flights and we are very happy to advise you on the different choices available. Because prices tend to increase closer to your departure date, we advise that you buy your international flight tickets as soon as you have made a decision about your tour. As an ATOL bonded tour operator, we can assist in your purchase of international flights. In fact, your entire tour can be protected under our ATOL licence by booking your international flight with us. Please note that flight tickets are non-refundable and 100% of your flight ticket price is payable on tour confirmation.

    Internal Flights
    As with international flights, Tango Tours' friendly and knowledgeable staff are on hand to book your internal flights for you if required. For some itineraries, you need to arrive at a particular destination at a required time/date therefore, it is vital that you book the correct flights and times of arrival. Our ATOL licence will protect your whole tour if your internal flights are purchased through us. Please note that flights are non-refundable and 100% of your flight ticket price is payable on tour confirmation.

    To confirm your booking with Tango Tours, we require a payment of 20% of the ground-based arrangements and 100% of all flights. The remaining balance of your tour is then payable 10 weeks prior to departure. For any bookings made within these 10 weeks, the full amount is payable.
