OverviewYour tour of Colombia starts in the colourful capital Bogotá where you will get drawn in to the lively atmosphere and friendly locals. With some time to explore this great city both by yourself and with a guide you will see some real highlights of Colombian culture and lifestyle. This includes the main square, museums, monuments and a spectacular panoramic view of the city and surrounding areas. From Bogotá the tour heads on to Zipaquirá, passing a magical stretch of carnations and roses, where you can see the sublime salt cathedral.
Pereira and Valle del Cocora offers some outstanding natural beauty, you can venture into the forest surrounded by rare wildlife, exotic flora and fauna and ‘wax palms’, the national tree of Colombia, before crossing the river and enjoying fresh trout for lunch!
Visit the quaint towns of Salento and Filandia with time to immerse yourself in the distinctive culture and lifestyle of these friendly areas, before embarking on a coffee plantation tour. Fascinating and beautiful, you will see coffee in whole new light! From here you head North to the coast and the lively city of Cartagena, where you get a special panoramic view of the city and the sea, a tour of some spectacular historical monuments and chance to explore this exciting, cosmopolitan region in your own time before heading home.
Day 1: Arrival - Bogotá
You arrive into to El Dorado airport in the beautiful capital Bogotá where you will be met and taken to your hotel to relax for the evening or explore the area a little!
Day 2: Bogotá City
Take a city tour of Bogota. Today is all about exploring the abundant history and culture Bogotá has to offer and appreciating the stunning Spanish colonial time architecture that makes this place so special.
Day 3: Bogotá - Zipaquirá - Villa de Leyva
After breakfast, depart from Bogotá to the north towards Zipaquirá. Travelling through the Sabana de Bogotá, the scenery consists of greenhouses used for the cultivation of carnations and roses – making for a truly magical ride. After a journey of roughly 1.15 hours you reach the impressive Salt Cathedral. After taking in the magic of the cathedral, you will travel to Villa de Leyva in the afternoon.
Day 4: Villa de Leyva - Bogotá - Pereira
After breakfast, you need to return to Bogotá. On the way to the airport, take a break in the Convento del Santo Ecce Homo, here you can look around the amazing architecture and relax in the serene courtyards before heading on to Bogotá airport for your departure flight to Pereira. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to a hotel and have the evening to enjoy the area.
Day 5: Pereira
This morning, leave for the Valle de Cocora, located in the central mountains of Quindio - the ideal place to marvel at the ‘Quindian wax palm’, the national tree of Colombia worshiped by the indigenous people. Upon arrival in the valley, either by hiking or on horseback not included), head into the ‘cloud forest’ to enjoy the staggering display of flora and fauna. On the return journey you cross the River Quindio while walking along an ecological pathway which takes one past the tallest wax palms in the world, a real day of natural wonder and escaping the hustle and bustle of the city. In the afternoon, continue 10km towards the traditional town of Salento to enjoy a city tour that visits the Plaza de Bolívar with its colourful balconies and the Cocora viewpoint. Then, transfer to the traditional village of Filandia to enjoy a city tour that includes the viewpoint, the colonial homes, the Plaza de Bolivar and the coffee shops. This is a slice of 'real' Colombia!
Day 6: Pereira
After breakfast visit the spectacularly beautiful coffee plantations along the steep hills typical of this area. Get fabulous views of the green carpet of coffee plants that spread out as far as the horizon interrupted only by Fincas and Heliconia flowers. The visit continues on to one of the coffee haciendas in the region to learn all about the production of coffee and tastings of come of the best coffee in the world!
Day 7: Pereira - Cartagena
In the morning, transfer to Pereira airport for a flight to Cartagena, via Bogotá.
Day 8: Cartagena Panoramic City Tour
Today take a tour of the beautiful city of Cartagena. Visit the San Felipe Fortress, the Ciudad Vieja (old city), the Zenú Gold Museum, lastly, continue to the handicrafts
zone of the Bovedas, a collection of archways built into the city wall of Cartagena!
Day 9: Cartagena
Today you have the whole day to yourself to explore the colourful old town of Cartagena. Surrounded by 13km of colonial stone-walls, this town is a real gem of the Caribbean coast and is well worth some time spent here.
Day 11: Cartagena - Bogotá
After breakfast it is time to say goodbye to Cartagena and Colombia – transfer back to Bogotá for your flight home.

In fact, your entire tour can be protected under our ATOL licence by booking your international flight with us. Please note that flight tickets are non-refundable and 100% of your flight ticket price is payable on tour confirmation.
As with international flights, Tango Tours' friendly and knowledgeable staff are on hand to book your internal flights for you if required. For some itineraries, you need to arrive at a particular destination at a required time/date therefore, it is vital that you book the correct flights and times of arrival. Our ATOL licence will protect your whole tour if your internal flights are purchased through us. Please note that flights are non-refundable and 100% of your flight ticket price is payable on tour confirmation.
To confirm your booking with Tango Tours, we require a payment of 20% of the ground-based arrangements and 100% of all flights. The remaining balance of your tour is then payable 10 weeks prior to departure. For any bookings made within these 10 weeks, the full amount is payable.
