Honeymoon in Costa Rica


Beginning in the capital San José, you are whisked off see the amazing Poas Volcano - the most spectacular volcano in the country. You will get suburb views of this force of nature and this is just the beginning of some of the fantastic natural beauty Costa Rica has to offer. See Doka coffee plantation, the imposing Irazu Volcano (the highest active volcano in Costa Rica), see the beautiful orchids of the Lankester Gardens and observe the panoramic beauty of the Orosi Valley.

As well as exploring the nature, visit the small towns of Sarchí and Grecia. Seldom visited by tourists, these quaint towns welcome visitors with open arms - peruse some of Sarchí's for Costa Rican Artisan workshops and get to know the locals.

A bit of adventure follows as you travel to Balsa River for a paddle through fun and safe rolling rapids and then play around in tranquil river pools, in an isolated rainforest river canyon - bliss! You cannot miss the world famous Mistico Hanging Bridges in this area - an extraordinary harmony between man and nature - what Costa Rica is all about!

Day 1: Arrival - Juan Santamaría
Today you will be met at Juan Santamaria International airport for your private transfer to your hotel in San José.

Day 2: Poas Volcano - Sarchí - Grecia
Today you will have a tour to Poas Volcano, Doka coffee plantation and the rural towns of Sarchí and Grecia.

The Poas is one of the most spectacular volcanoes in the country, with its enormous crater, the crystal blue sulfur pools, and views of steam rising from the various volcanic vents. You will also get to hike to the beautiful Botos Lagoon.

Lunch is provided in Doka Estate Coffee Plantation, a third-generation coffee plantation, where you will have the opportunity to learn how coffee is picked, milled, ground and roasted.

You will continue to the beautiful town of Grecia, in Alajuela Province which is an important agricultural hub of the country, sugar cane is grown and harvested in large amounts in Grecia, as is organic coffee and pineapples. To catch a glimpse of the local lifestyle, you will also visit the central market area.

The final visit of the day will be to Sarchi, known as the Cradle of Costa Rican Artisans thanks to its fine workshops. Here you will have time to enjoy the artistic work of local artisans as they create the famous typical oxcarts and you will have the opportunity to look for a special souvenir to take home.

Day 3: Irazu Volcano, Lankester Gardens and Orosi Valley
Today you can appreciate the imposing Irazu Volcano, delight yourself with the beautiful orchids of the Lankester Gardens and observe the panoramic beauty of the Orosi Valley. Irazu Volcano is the highest active volcano in Costa Rica. Lunch included.

Day 4: Rafting in Balsa River – Arenal
This morning you will transfer to Balsa River for an exciting day of adventure. Río Balsa river rafting is a great blend of nature and adventure – perfect for first-timers and couples! After a safety talk and paddling instructions, challenge yourself as you paddle through fun and safe rolling rapids and then play around in tranquil river pools, in an isolated rainforest river canyon.

Hopefully you will get to see lots of wildlife like monkeys, sloths and tropical birds such as oropendolas and toucans. Following lunch, you will be transferred to your hotel in Arenal.

Day 5: Mistico Hanging Bridges
In the morning you will have a natural history walk in Mistico Hanging Bridges. With birds migrating between North and South America, the trails and bridges of this project will bring you as close as you could ever imagine to observing the birds, flowers and the lush vegetation of the primary rainforest.

It is a 250-hectares primary-forest property, made of paths and bridges built to maintain the utmost harmony between man-made structures and nature. The property has impressive views to Arenal Volcano and to the lake that feeds the largest hydroelectric plant in Costa Rica.

Day 6 - 9: Arenal – Beach
Today you will travel to a Beach resort where can relax and take advantage of the beautiful beach or join an optional tour over the next few days.

Day 9: Departure
Today you will transfer to the local airport for your flight back to Juan Santamaria International Airport.

    International Flights

    Because prices tend to increase closer to your departure date, we advise that you buy your international flight tickets as soon as you have made a decision about your tour.

    As an ATOL bonded tour operator, we can assist in your purchase of international flights. In fact, your entire tour can be protected under our ATOL licence by booking your international flight with us. Please note that 100% of your flight ticket price is payable on tour confirmation.

    Internal Flights
    As with international flights, Tango Tours' friendly and knowledgeable staff are on hand to assist in the selection and purchase of internal flights. Some itineraries require that you arrive at a particular destination at a required time/date. Therefore, it is vital that you book the right flights and times of arrival.     Our ATOL licence will protect your whole tour if your internal flights are purchased through us. Please note that 100% of your flight ticket price is payable on tour confirmation.

    To confirm your booking with Tango Tours, we require a 20% deposit for the ground-based arrangements. (This excludes flight prices, as these a payable in full on the point of booking.) The balance of your tour is then payable 10 weeks prior to departure.


    Sometimes the accommodation stated in the itinerary may be subject to change. This is because the suggested hotels cannot be confirmed until booking is made and availability is checked. If any hotel is unavailable, a similar hotel will be offered instead. You can be assured that we will always strive to provide the best accommodation to suit your budget.
