When you leave Pacuare lodge, you travel up to the Guanacaste province where the landscape is stunningly beautiful - on route you will see mountains, bays, cliffs and rivers before arriving at Papagayo Peninsula. The peninsula is home to some of the most beautiful beaches and waters in all of Costa Rica. A real 'paradise island' this area is absolutely gorgeous so spend your last days in Costa Rica lounging on the beach in the comfortable heat.

Day 1: Arrival - Juan Santamaría
On arrival to Juan Santamaría airport you will be met and taken to your hotel in the heart of San José where you have the evening to enjoy some local food and soak up the atmosphere.
Day 2: Pacuare River Rafting Adventure
Today, your adventure by starts rafting down the Pacuare River through breathtaking canyons and luxuriant vegetation up to the door of Pacuare Lodge. This protected zone of incomparable beauty covers approximately 25,000 acres extending from the town of Siquirres to the Talamanca Mountain Range. This is the perfect way to explore one of Costa Rica’s most exquisite rainforest, allowing you time to fully enjoy a variety of excursions and the area’s breathtaking natural scenery. It is a popular location for whitewater rafting, whitewater kayaking and river boarding. The rainforests that surround the river are home to exotic animal species such as jaguars, monkeys, ocelots, and a very large number of birds. After lunch, you can take an optional 'Sustainability Tour' with a biologist guide, slide between the trees along cables or simply relax in your private bungalow. In the evening, dine on gourmet delicacies by candlelight and then visit the upstairs lounge for a drink.
Day 3: Rainforest Hike
This morning, enjoy a rainforest hike and discover the Cabecar culture. The Talamanca Mountains are home to the Cabecar Indians, the largest indigenous group in Costa Rica, and one that retains many of its traditional customs and beliefs. From the lodge, you will have the opportunity to discover and experience Cabecar’s way of life in relative comfort, without invading their privacy. You can start with a moderate, 30 -minute hike through the rainforest, which allows you to see some of the flora and fauna that these indigenous people have long relied on, or you can take a more direct route, which entails a short walk from the Lodge. The rest of the day at leisure before dinner.
Day 4: Rafting in Pacuare River – Arenal
This morning, you will depart by raft for a fun-filled day of white water rafting excitement including a delicious picnic lunch along the river. After lunch you will have a private transfer to the Arenal region. This region offers a landscape of exceptional beauty with its forests, lakes, crop fields, hot water rivers and one of the most active volcanoes of Costa Rica: the Arenal.
Day 5: Arenal Sky Tram & Sky Trek
This morning, enjoy a private tour to the Sky Tram (aerial tram) & the Sky Trek (canopy tour). The tour starts in the reception and reaches a wide observation deck at the highest point of the Arenal Reserve, with an excellent view of the rain forest, the Arenal volcano and the lake. Once the observation deck is reached, you can enjoy a 30-minute walk in one of the trails. Take the Sky Trek canopy tour to return to the starting point. The canopy tour includes 8 cross-sectional cables with a total length of 1.7 miles and a maximum height of 660 feet and provides an impressive panoramic view of the Arenal volcano and lake. In the afternoon, you will have a private guided visit to Arenal Volcano National Park and Tabacón Hot Springs. Few sites in Costa Rica inspire more respect and admiration than Arenal Volcano. This tour will allow you to enjoy the most extraordinary views of Arenal Volcano during a gentle hike along the lower slopes of the colossus. After the hike, take a relaxing soak in the natural mineral waters of the Tabacon Hot Springs before dinner.
Day 6: Arenal – Papagayo Peninsula
Private transfer to the Guanacaste province. The region of the Northern Pacific is a land of beautiful landscapes made up of bays, gulfs, hills splattered with forests and cliffs, panoramic routes, volcanoes, wild rivers, beautiful beaches of grey, fine dark, white and golden sands bathed by a blue sea of clear waters, with mainly gentle waves and rich in fishes and seashore birds.
Day 7 & 8: Papagayo Peninsula
Days at leisure to relax and enjoy the facilities of the hotel.
Day 8: Papagayo Peninsula – San José
Private transfer to Liberia airport for your local flight back to San José. Upon arrival in San José airport you will have a private transfer to Juan Santamaría International Airport.

Because prices tend to increase closer to your departure date, we advise that you buy your international flight tickets as soon as you have made a decision about your tour. As an ATOL bonded tour operator, we can assist in your purchase of international flights. In fact, your entire tour can be protected under our ATOL licence by booking your international flight with us. Please note that flight tickets are non-refundable and 100% of your flight ticket price is payable on tour confirmation.
As with international flights, Tango Tours' friendly and knowledgeable staff are on hand to book your internal flights for you if required. For some itineraries, you need to arrive at a particular destination at a required time/date therefore, it is vital that you book the correct flights and times of arrival. Our ATOL licence will protect your whole tour if your internal flights are purchased through us. Please note that flights are non-refundable and 100% of your flight ticket price is payable on tour confirmation.
To confirm your booking with Tango Tours, we require a payment of 20% of the ground-based arrangements and 100% of all flights. The remaining balance of your tour is then payable 10 weeks prior to departure. For any bookings made within these 10 weeks, the full amount is payable.
