OverviewThis exciting tour covers some amazing sites of Mayan historical interest. You start in the buzzing city of Cancun and continue on to 2 other countries altogether! In Mexico see Uxmal, Palenque, the ancient town of Campeche and the ruins in Yaxchilán, after a boat ride over the border to Guatemala to see Tikal and get a great view of its incredible variety of pyramids and trails that shows it used to be the most important city of the Mayan world in the 8th century. Considered to be the most beautiful Mayan site, it is a sight to behold and you will be encapsulated!
Belize is the next stop! After a night in Belize City the tour takes you right into the heart of the jungle to visit Lamanai Religious Center. This magical place couldn't be more remote - surrounded by lush vegetation and exotic wildlife!
As well as some fantastic and fascinating sites, you have the opportunity to enjoy the atmospheric cities and beautiful landscape that surrounds them and immerse yourself in some authentic Mexican culture and famous delicious cuisine!
Day 1: Arrival - Cancún - Chichén Itzà - Mérida
Today you arrive in Cancún where the tour leaves for Mérida. On the way you will stop at the Chichén Itzá archaeological site, where our guides will talk you through the impressive buildings before continuing on to the city of Mérida. On arrival you will get a stunning panoramic view of the city, and a chance to admire the city’s main monuments before heading to your hotel for the evening.
Day 2: Mérida - Uxmal - Campeche
Depart this morning to the archaeological site of Uxmal, that means “built in three stages”, and it is a typical example of the classic and post-classic Mayan period. Afterwards the tour continues to Campeche, the afternoon schedule includes a short visit to the ancient town, surrounded by fort walls and towers built to protect this city from the pirates. Campeche has a Colonial mood thanks to its gorgeous houses and austere churches. This evening you will stay at a hotel in Campeche centre.
Day 3: Campeche - Palenque
After breakfast, you will depart for Palenque. In the afternoon the tour continues with a visit to Palenque’s archaeological site where area displays beautiful Mayan work made of stone and stucco.
This area is often recognized as one of Mexico’s most beautiful places as its ruins are inside the Chiapanecan jungle. Its most important temple is called Templo de las Inscripciones (Temple of the Inscriptions), where explorers discovered Pakal’s tomb with his famous jade mask. You will have the whole afternoon is dedicated to exploring this beautiful place before heading to a hotel in Palenque for a relaxing evening.
Day 4: Palenque - Yaxchilán - Flores
A full packed day starts with departure to Corozal at the Mexican border. On route you can admire the abundant vegetation of the lush jungle. At the end of this gorgeous track, the tour will proceed with a boat ride through the Usumacinta River for approximately one hour toward the ancient Mayan city called Yaxchilán, which is in the middle of the jungle! An amazing setting for an amazing place.
At the end of this wonderful visit, the tour will continue upriver back to Corozal for lunch in a rustic restaurant by the river bank.
After lunch and going through the customs requirements from the Mexican authorities, visitors will board launch boats for another 30-minute trip to the Guatemalan town of Betel.
Arriving at Betel, the tour will continue to Flores. On your way to this beautiful town, you can get great views of the wonderful Guatemalan jungle. You will stay in Flores for the evening at a lovely hotel serving traditional Guatemalan food.
Day 5: Flores - Tikal - Belize City
From Flores it's another change of country! This time to the wonderful, and lesser known, Belize.
You start with a visit to the Tikal archaeological site, which is considered to be the most beautiful Mayan site. Its incredible variety of pyramids and trails shows that Tikal used to be the most important city of the Mayan world in the 8th century.
Spend the day discovering its mystery by walking among its constructions that can reach up to 70 meters! With an incredible view of the Petén jungle, this place is really special. After lunch and the afternoon at the sight, you will travel to Belize city and stay in a hotel for the evening.
Day 6: Belize City - Kohunlich
In the morning you'll depart towards Tower Hill, to board a boat for a 2-hour trip to the Lamanai Religious Center. Along the way, you'll have the opportunity to admire rare species of bats, birds and even crocodiles and turtles. You arrive at Lamanai archaeological site, which is in the heart of a tropical jungle full of exotic fruits and wonderful natural smells, the only noise that disturbs that peaceful environment is the monkeys’ screeching.
After some time spent at Lamanai, you'll return by boat towards Tower Hill, and then take the tour bus heading to the border of Belize and Mexico. After crossing the border, you'll be taken to Kohunlich to a special hotel right in the heart of the jungle for the night! A real atmospheric treat that puts you up close and personal with nature!
Day 7: Kohunlich-Cancun-Departure
Today you have a well-deserved free morning to relax in the natural environment and enjoy the amazing green landscape that surrounds the entire area.
In the afternoon you'll travel to the Laguna de Bacalar (Bacalar Lake), which is also known as “Laguna de Siete Colores” (Seven Colors Lake) due to its variety of colors!
After lunch it's time to say goodbye to the mystery and magic of Mexico as you are taken back to Cancun for your onward flight.

Because prices tend to increase closer to your departure date, we advise that you buy your international flight tickets as soon as you have made a decision about your tour. As an ATOL bonded tour operator, we can assist in your purchase of international flights. In fact, your entire tour can be protected under our ATOL licence by booking your international flight with us. Please note that flight tickets are non-refundable and 100% of your flight ticket price is payable on tour confirmation.
As with international flights, Tango Tours' friendly and knowledgeable staff are on hand to book your internal flights for you if required. For some itineraries, you need to arrive at a particular destination at a required time/date therefore, it is vital that you book the correct flights and times of arrival. Our ATOL licence will protect your whole tour if your internal flights are purchased through us. Please note that flights are non-refundable and 100% of your flight ticket price is payable on tour confirmation.
To confirm your booking with Tango Tours, we require a payment of 20% of the ground-based arrangements and 100% of all flights. The remaining balance of your tour is then payable 10 weeks prior to departure. For any bookings made within these 10 weeks, the full amount is payable.
