Day 1: Arrival - San José
On arrival, you will be met at Juan Santamaria International airport and transferred privately to your hotel in San José.
Day 2: San José – Arenal area via Poás Volcano and Laguna de Hule
During this shuttle transfer to Arenal, you will have the opportunity to visit Poas Volcano National Park: One of the attractive features about this volcano is that you can get all the way to the edge of the crater. A 600 meter trail leads you to a spectacular lookout where you can observe the main crater with its constant fumaroles. Another trail leads to Botos Lagoon, an old crater filled with cold and crystal clear water. Next head to Hule Lagoon
and enjoy a nice typical lunch while enjoying the panoramic views. This beautiful lagoon is located at the base of the Cerro Congo Volcano, 11 km from the famous Poas Volcano. This area is renowned for its excellent trekking trails due to the variety of scenery and terrain, from clay, to dirt, volcanic rock, and grasslands in a rainforest at 800 m above sea level. Carry on to Arenal where you check into your hotel.
Day 3: Arenal
Today embark on a shared tour to Arenal Volcano National Park and Hot Springs - a real highlight of Costa Rica! On this hike along the trails of Arenal National Park, enter into the tropical forest and areas which were once devastated by the fury of the volcano. During the hike, it is possible to see a great variety of flora and fauna. We will also observe the lava slides of 1992, a large accumulation of solidified volcanic material. On clear days, you will enjoy incredible views of the impressive Arenal Volcano, Arenal Lake, the Tilarán mountain range, and Cerro Chato. After the hike, you have the opportunity to relax in the 'Paradise Hot Springs'. These waters are naturally heated by the Arenal Volcano and are pure and without any kind of added chemicals. They are made up of rain water that is filtered through the earth, circulating through different depths, gathering minerals and gaining temperature when making contact with very hot materials.
Day 4: Arenal – Monteverde
After breakfast, take a shared transfer by boat on Arenal Lake to Monteverde. Arenal Lake is the largest and the most important lake in Costa Rica. This service, is a picturesque and fast way to get to Monteverde from the Arenal Volcano area and there are many opportunities to spot wildlife on the way. After a 30 minute ride to the dam, you will board a very comfortable and safe pontoon boat. After crossing the lake, (a 30 to 40 minutes boat ride), you will arrive to Río Chiquito, a little town at the other side in the Monteverde region.
Day 5: Monteverde
In the morning, enjoy a range of exciting adventures in Selvatura Park. We call this the Adventure Combo Tour and includes a Canopy tour, walking up on suspension Bridges, a visit to the Butterfly Garden, and more!
Selvatura Park is a cloud forest conservation project where a wide variety of tours are hosted. Visitors can glide through cables and zip lines through the cloud forest or take the Treetop Walkways consisting of a 3-kilometre trail and eight different bridges. The park also has a butterfly garden hosting more than 50 different species of butterflies and a hummingbird garden, a treat for photography lovers and a spectacular show for anyone who loves nature. There is also an Education Center with a large private insect collection, property of world famous entomologist Dr. Richard Whitten. A Cloud Forest History walk teaches visitors about the natural history of
Monteverde and all about the cloud forest ecosystem.
Day 6: Monteverde – Tamarindo Beach
This morning take a shuttle transfer to Tamarindo Beach (around 5hrs). The stunning Tamarindo Beach is located on the Pacific coast- there are two beaches here separated by a large mangrove estuary, Estero de Tamarindo.These beaches and estuaries are part of Las Baulas National Park.
Day 7: Tamarindo Beach
You have the day at leisure to relax on the beach or to take an optional tour, for example surfing. Tamarindo is famous for its excellent surf - we can arrange lessons, time with an instructor, board hire, and anything else you may need!
Day 8: Tamarindo Beach – San José
After breakfast in your hotel. Take a shuttle transfer back to San José. (5 hours approx.).
Day 9: Departure
say goodbye to Costa Rica as you transfer to Juan Santamaría International Airport for your onward journey.

Getting to Costa Rica is straightforward from most areas of the world, but you may find that the choice is bewildering, or you’re not sure about the easiest route. Because prices tend to increase closer to your departure date, we advise that you buy your international flight tickets as soon as you have made a decision about your tour. As an ATOL bonded tour operator, we can assist in your purchase of international flights. In fact, your entire tour can be protected under our ATOL licence by booking your international flight with us. Please note that flight tickets are non-refundable and 100% of your flight ticket price is payable on tour confirmation.
As with international flights, Tango Tours' friendly and knowledgeable staff are on hand to book your internal flights for you if required. For some itineraries, you need to arrive at a particular destination at a required time/date therefore, it is vital that you book the correct flights and times of arrival. Our ATOL licence will protect your whole tour if your internal flights are purchased through us. Please note that flights are non-refundable and 100% of your flight ticket price is payable on tour confirmation.
To confirm your booking with Tango Tours, we require a payment of 20% of the ground-based arrangements and 100% of all flights. The remaining balance of your tour is then payable 10 weeks prior to departure. For any bookings made within these 10 weeks, the full amount is payable.
