Beginning in beautiful Buenos Aires, and after some time to explore the sights of the capital, head Northwest to a landscape of extremes! Beginning the trek, you will get a feel for the magic of this spectacular area. The Northwest has its own character and is like nowhere else in Argentina!
Ascending to the top of mountains, descending into deep valleys, making your way through thick forest and vegetation, admiring stretching plain landscapes, this trek has it all!
Day 1: Arrival - Buenos Aires
Today you arrive in beautiful Buenos Aires! Your guide will be waiting for you in the Airport and you will be taken to your hotel in the centre of the city. After some time to freshen up, you will go on a sightseeing tour of the city covering some of the most iconic and important areas of Buenos Aires and discovering some hidden gems too!
Day 2: Buenos Aires - Salta - Purmamarca
Take a private transfer to the domestic airport for your flight to Salta. Private transfer to your accommodation in Purmamarca, a nice town at the Humahuaca Ravine. Spend the rest of the day enjoying the colorful town while preparing for the next day.
Day 3: Tilcara - Veranada de Yutos Pampa
Early this morning, take a private transfer to “Alfarcito” (2900 m). There, you will begin your on foot crossing, with a slow ascent to reach Campo Laguna (4200 m). This is the highest point of the crossing. After lunch, descend to Yutos Pampa at 3200 metres.
Day 4: Veranada de Yutos Pampa - Molulo
Continue your crossing, ascending to the top of the Mount Cumbre Grande. At the end of the valley, the crowded forest can be appreciated. In the afternoon arrive to the community of Molulo at 2950 meters high.
Day 5: Molulo - Abra del Potrero
Enjoy a relaxing morning, with plenty of time to meet the local people and explore the area. After lunch, continue with your crossing. Gradually, you will notice the increase of vegetation. Arrive then, to a place known as Abra Potrero.
Day 6: Abra del Potrero - San Lucas
Continue your adventure from the Abra of the Potrero (lowest point between two mountains). The thick forest gives ten reveals plain landscape - an area of extremes. From the red land come the first trees. After undertaking a section of forest in continuous ascension you get to see a caserío (under populated place) at 2500 meters. Later, slowly start the descent back to the town.
Day 7: San Lucas - Calilegua - Salta
This is the last stage of the crossing between San Lucas and San Francisco. The path continues by the southern bank of San Lucas River, the vegetation is dense and the valley deep. After crossing Valle Grande Valley, ascent to Peña Alta, which is the end of your long walk. There, your transfer is waiting for you, to take you trough the small town San Francisco and the whole stunning Calilegua National Park, arriving to Libertador San Martin Village. From there, continue to Salta city.
Day 8: Depature
Take a private transfer to the airport in Salta for your onward travel.

Getting to Argentina is straightforward from most areas of the world, but you may find that the choice is bewildering, or you’re not sure about the easiest route. Because prices tend to increase closer to your departure date, we advise that you buy your international flight tickets as soon as you have made a decision about your tour. As an ATOL bonded tour operator, we can assist in your purchase of international flights. In fact, your entire tour can be protected under our ATOL licence by booking your international flight with us. Please note that flight tickets are non-refundable and 100% of your flight ticket price is payable on tour confirmation.
As with international flights, Tango Tours' friendly and knowledgeable staff are on hand to book your internal flights for you if required. For some itineraries, you need to arrive at a particular destination at a required time/date therefore, it is vital that you book the correct flights and times of arrival. Our ATOL licence will protect your whole tour if your internal flights are purchased through us. Please note that flights are non-refundable and 100% of your flight ticket price is payable on tour confirmation.
To confirm your booking with Tango Tours, we require a payment of 20% of the ground-based arrangements and 100% of all flights. The remaining balance of your tour is then payable 10 weeks prior to departure. For any bookings made within these 10 weeks, the full amount is payable.
