Ibera Wetlands Adventure
OverviewThe Iberá Lake and marshlands are among the last paradises on earth where visitors can get face to face with caimans, capybaras, swamp deer, howler monkeys and hundreds of birds. Over 350 species of birds live in this virgin landscape. In the heart of Corrientes province you will find the Iberá wetlands. The nature reserve, founded in the year 1983, covers over 13,000 km² of marsh with over 60 lakes – an area where wild animals are still in charge!
From your luxury lodge in the wetlands, embark on a choice of amazing activities to explore this unique region. Climb aboard motor boats, paddle in canoes, trek through the wilderness, take a drive in all terrain vehicles, and much more - an amazing way to spot as much wildlife as you can in this unbelievable place!
From the wetlands, head North to Iguazu where you can explore both the Argentinian and Brazilian sides of the magnificent Iguazu falls! Walk along the new catwalks to get the best views of this unbelievable torrent of water - truly spectacular and a fabulous way to end the dream tour for any nature lover!
Day 1: Arrival - Ibera Wetlands
Arrive at Mercedes City where you will be met by a guide and taken to your eco lodge located in Ibera Wetlands! Enjoy a “Chipa correntino” (regional pastry) on arrival and take the rest of the day to relax and explore the ground of the lodge, including a long undulating wood pier leading you to the relaxed waters of a floating quay - the perfect place to stargaze or watch the sun setting!
Day 2: Ibera Wetlands
In the morning, take your first guided outing in a Motorboat looking out for Wild Fauna. Sail towards the Corriente Stream where unforgettable fauna watching is expected among the floating islands of the Iberá lagoon. For many parts of this tour, engines are silenced and with the help of a pole, the boat is drifted along the smaller streams and aquatic vegetation. Here the greatest concentration of fauna is to be found: capybaras, marsh deer, neo-tropical river otters, the two types of caimans, as well as a large variety (350 species) of aquatic birds. Continue to the Southwest coast of the Lagoon, Paso Claro, Lobo Cuá Bay where more wildlife can be observed. You then climb aboard a canoe to really get up close with the wetlands, followed by guided tekking in the forest and a visit to the Interpretation Center - you really get to see the wetlands from every direction!
Day 3: Ibera Wetlands
This morning, again head out on the motorboat in the hope of spotting more wildlife! There are a whole range of activities available from the lodge for you to take part in today, from trekking to canoeing, 4x4 rides to motor boat journeys and lots more! In the afternoon, take a guided trek through the Grasslands, Sabana and Palmtrees Forest. First walk on a grassland area called savannah, which is outstanding for varied bird-watching. Some birds, as the white woodpecker, are only seen on this site. Walk along the native forest with caranday palm trees until you get to the lagoon coast. These surroundings are very different from what you have seen so far and it is possible to watch Marsh deer grazing in groups in the open as well as Capybara families and Southern screamers on the marsh coasts.
