Get to the heart of Mexican culture by visiting some atmospheric towns, cities and the many impressive sites they are home to. Enjoy local markets and even turn your hand to traditional Tortilla making! The Mexican people are friendly and welcoming so immerse yourself in their way of life and enjoy their excellent hospitality. Towards the end of your trip, enjoy a slice of luxury at an all-inclusive resort in the beautiful Riviera Maya - enjoy the blue waters, sandy beaches and take part in activities if you wish! This is an international group tour. On arrival, you will meet up with the rest of your group who are travellers from all over the world! This is a great way to meet new people from different cultures and enjoy your experiences with a group of like-minded individuals! If you would prefer to do this tour privately with just you and your group then get in touch!
Day 1: Arrival - Mexico City
Today you arrive in magical Mexico City! You will be collected from the airport and taken to your hotel in the city. The rest of the day is yours to explore in your own time.
Day 2: Mexico City
After breakfast in your hotel you embark upon on full City Tour of Mexico City which includes: Plaza de la Constitución, followed by The Palacio Nacional (National Palace) - the headquarters of the Presidency of Mexico, Templo Mayor, the great temple of the Aztec capital and a brief stop at the Guadalupe Shrine. The tour continues to Teotihuacán, named by the Aztecs as “the place where the Gods are born”. This location has three great constructions: The Pyramid of the Sun, Pyramid of the Moon and the Citadel. After lunch, return to Mexico City and you then have the rest of the day and evening to explore this fast-paced, exciting capital!
Day 3: Mexico City - Puebla - Oaxaca
Departure by bus to the beautiful and colonial city of Puebla; visit the Santo Domingo church, where you can visit the Rosario Chapel, one of the biggest works of Mexican Baroque art. Enjoy a local lunch in a restaurant nearby. In the afternoon the tour proceeds to Oaxaca by bus.
Day 4: Oaxaca
Today is dedicated to the city of Oaxaca and Monte Alban. In the morning visit of the famous archaeological site of Monte Alban - a ceremonial center built on a hill and rich in pyramids, tombs and sunken reliefs. Visit a typical “Alebrije’s” workshop (where they create brightly coloured Mexican folk art), where you’ll be able to create your own little Masterpiece! In the afternoon return to Oaxaca and visit of the city known as the “Patriots Cradle”, the tour includes the amazing Zocalo, where the Cathedral and the Santo Domingo Church are located. Continue to the old Santa Catalina from Siena friary and to the local market - one of the most typical of the region.
Day 5: Oaxaca - Tuxtla Gutiérrez
In the morning depart to Mitla, an ancient Mixtec center. Visit the archaeological site in which you can see amazing geometrical decorations with incredibly abstract drawings. The tour continues to Tehuantepec for lunch. In the afternoon proceed to Tuxtla Gutiérrez - capital of the State of Chiapas. On arrival, head to your hotel and relax for the evening.
Day 6: Tuxtla Gutiérrez - San Cristóbal de las Casas
After breakfast, transfer to the Cahuaré wharf to enjoy a launch boat trip through the Cañón del Sumidero (Sumidero Canyon). The beauty of this place is truly breathtaking. Enjoy lunch in a restaurant nearby and afterwards, continue to San Cristóbal de las Casas. On arrival head to your accommodation and the rest of the afternoon is yours to explore the area a little more.
Day 7: San Cristóbal de las Casas
In the morning visit one of the most typical local markets where hundreds of Indigenous people sell their hand-made products every day! After some time to look around, the tour continues to the Baroque Santo Domingo Church founded in 1547. You then have the unique opportunity of meeting the Indigenous communities of San Juan Chamula and Zinacantán. The San Juan Chamula community is particularly linked to this church where ceremonies were celebrated that have a great influence of paganism. The Indigenous population of Zinacantan, on the other hand is very loyal to the Catholic faith. Whilst here, you can also make your own delicious “Tortilla” and enjoy a shot of “Pox” - an ancient Mayan elixir! Return to San Cristóbal for the evening.
Day 8: San Cristóbal de las Casas - Palenque
Today depart to Palenque with a stop at the stunning Agua Azul (Blue Water) waterfalls en route. This journey will last approximately 5 hours on a mountain road on which you can enjoy amazing views of the abundant lush vegetation of this Chiapanecan zone. Enjoy lunch in a rustic restaurant en route or a picnic. On arrival in Palenque, head to your hotel and relax or explore this evening.
Day 9: Palenque - Campeche
Today visit the iconic Palenque archaeological site. The area displays beautiful Mayan work made in stone and stucco; this area is frequently recognized as one of Mexico’s most beautiful places due to the ruins being enclosed in the lush Chiapanecan jungle! Its most important temple is called Templo de las Inscripciones (Temple of the Inscriptions), and here is where explorers discovered Pakal’s tomb with his famous striking jade mask. Continue to Campeche, which is the capital of the Campeche State stopping in a restaurant en route. Upon arrival to Campeche, take a short visit to the ancient town, surrounded by fort walls and towers built to protect this city from the pirates! Campeche has a Colonial feel due to its gorgeous houses and austere churches. After visiting the city, check into your hotel for the evening.
Day 10: Campeche - Mérida
This morning, depart to Mérida with visit to the incredible Uxmal archaeological site en route. Uxmal means “built in three stages” and it is a typical example of the classic and post-classic Mayan period. Its main constructions are: Pirámide del Adivino (The Fortuneteller’s Pyramid), Palacio de los Gobernadores (Governor’s Palace) and the Cuadrángulo de las Monjas (Quadrangle of the Nuns). Have lunch in a nearby restaurant before continuing on to Mérida, also known as the “White City”. Mérida has pretty Colonial houses as well as houses that date from the beginning of the century in Arabic, French and Italian styles. Visit Mérida’s Zócalo, where visitors can admire the city’s main monuments: the Cathedral, the Government’s Palace, the Municipal Palace and the Francisco Montejo’s House.
Day 11: Mérida - Riviera Maya
Today visit the world-famous Chichén Itzá archaeological site. Chichén Itzá was the Mayan capital of Yucatán and flourished between the 5th and 10th centuries AD. Here you have the chance to admire the impressive buildings of the northern and central archaeological sites, such as: the Kukulcán Temple, the Ball Game, the Observatory, the Warrior’s Temple, the Convent of the Nuns and the Sacred Cenote. In the afternoon, continue to Riviera Maya, visiting Cenote Saamal en route - a stunning natural pool ideal for a refreshing swim! On arrival check into your all-inclusive hotel by the beach and enjoy relaxing on the beach and make the most of the facilities for the rest of the evening!
Day 12: Departure
Transfer to Cancun airport for your onward travel.

Getting to Mexico is straightforward from most areas of the world, but you may find that the choice is bewildering, or you’re not sure about the easiest route. Because prices tend to increase closer to your departure date, we advise that you buy your international flight tickets as soon as you have made a decision about your trip. As an ATOL bonded tour operator, we can assist in your purchase of international flights. In fact, your entire tour can be protected under our ATOL licence by booking your international flight with us. Please note that 100% of your flight ticket price is payable on tour confirmation and is non-refundable.
To confirm your booking with Tango Tours, we require a payment of 20% of the ground-based arrangements and 100% of all flights booked with us. The remaining balance of your tour is then payable 10 weeks prior to departure. For any bookings made within these 10 weeks, the full amount is payable.
