This tour offers an exclusive look into Colombia - a country famed for its spectacular landscapes, beautiful Colonial cities and friendly people! Embark on an unique look into this often over-looked gem of South America.

The group begins in the charming capital Bogota, with its quaint red roofs and cobbled streets, this city will immediately engage you in the Colombian way of life! Take a tour of the city's main sites before heading off to the Coffee Region of Pereira.

An area that couldn't be more different from the bustling streets of the capital, Pereira is world renowned for its coffee-making. Head into the stunning lush greenness of the Parque Nacional de los Nevados and explore this unbelievably beautiful countryside. Take a tour of a local coffee hacienda where you will learn all about coffee production and get to taste some of the best coffee in the world! You will also visit some small towns in this area - Salento and Filandia which will immerse you in the traditions and atmosphere of this unique part of Colombia.

Round off this trip of a lifetime in the stunning city of Cartagena. Known for its laid-back atmosphere and beautiful architecture, this is an excellent way to bid goodbye to Colombia!

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival - Bogota
Today you arrive in the atmospheric city of Bogota! Your guide will be waiting for you in the Airport and you will be taken to your hotel in the centre of the city. Enjoy dinner in a local restaurant this evening.

Day 2: Bogota
Today enjoy a private half day guided tour of the historic centre of Bogotá known as La Candelaria and enjoy lunch en route. This archaic suburb has great significance in the country´s history due to its cultural heritage and is also a great example of Spanish colonial time architecture. Visit the main square Plaza de Bolivar, The Cathedral, The Capilla del Sagrario - located just beside the Cathedral, The buildings around the Plaza de Bolivar such as the Palacio de Justicia, the Mayor of Bogotá’s offices, the oldest school in the country and much more! The visit continues with the National Museum - the oldest in the country and one of the oldest in the continent, built in 1823. It was known as the Panóptico (inspired by the Panopticon prison) and served as a prison until 1946. In 1948, the building was adapted for National Museum and restored in 1975. Next is the impressive Emerald Museum! You then have the rest of the day to enjoy Bogota in your own time.

Day 3: Bogota - Pereira
Today take a short internal flight to the coffee region of Pereira, where you will be met and transferred to your hotel for the evening.

Day 4: Pereira
This morning leave for the Valle de Cocora which is located in the spectacular central mountains of the department of Quindío. This makes part of the Parque Nacional de los Nevados and is the ideal place to marvel at the “Quindian wax palm” - the national tree of Colombia. This tree can reach a staggering height of 60m. Around here a great number of species of birds live, in particular rare types of hummingbird. Upon arrival in the valley, either hiking or on horseback (horseback will incur an extra cost), head into the stunning cloud forest to enjoy the biodiversity of flora and fauna. On the return journey, cross the River Quindío while walking along an ecological pathway which takes you past the tallest wax palms in the world. Learn why the indigenous people here worshipped this tree. Stop at a trout farm and enjoy a traditional meal of smoked trout here. Enjoy some free time here in the beautiful surroundings. In the afternoon, continue towards the traditional town of Salento to enjoy a city tour that visits the Plaza de Bolívar with its colorful balconies, the calle real, the handicrafts shops and the spectacular Cocora viewpoint. Then, transfer to the traditional village of Filandia to enjoy a city tour here too visiting the colonial homes, the Plaza de Bolivar and the coffee shops. Here, enjoy some time soaking up the regional atmosphere and perhaps some local spirits before returning to the hotel!

Day 5: Pereira - Cartagena
You have the morning free today to enjoy your picturesque surroundings. This afternoon, visit coffee plantations along the steep hills so typical of this area. On a secondary pathway view the green carpet of coffee plants that spread out as far as the horizon interrupted only by fincas and heliconia flowers. Take a break in the Alto de La Paz, a beautiful viewpoint and enjoy the view of the scenery over the coffee region that has been declared a world Heritage site by UNESCO. The visit continues on to a coffee hacienda to see the plantations and the production system. The visit to the property begins in the house with an introductory chat about coffee, its preparation, toasting, the characteristics of quality and the properties that allows for such a variety of coffees in the world. The tour continues through the grounds before you transfer to Pereira airport for a short flight to Cartagena. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel check-in. Enjoy a dinner at a local restaurant this evening.

Day 6: Cartagena
Today take a tour of Cartagena's colonial district. Begin in Bolivar Park, which is shaded by large trees and is home to beautiful fountains and a statue of the great Liberator at the centre. Around the square is the Gold Museum, which exhibits a fine collection of archaeological objects dating back to the pre-hispanic period. The tour continues to the Santo Domingo Church and the Cathedral. Enjoy a lunch during the excursion and spend the rest of the day at leisure soking up the relaxed and friendly atmosphere of this stunning city.

Day 7: Cartagena
You have the whole day free today to enjoy the beautiful city of Cartagena in your own time. Wonder through its atmospheric streets, sample some excellent local cuisine and enjoy the laid-back atmosphere! Meet up with the group again this evening for dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 8: Depature
Take a private transfer to the airport for your flight home.

    International Flights
    Getting to Colombia is straightforward from most areas of the world! For this tour we have made things easy for you by including all international flights and all internal flights in the price so you don't have to worry about booking anything! This also means your entire tour is protected under our ATOL licence.

    Payments
    To confirm your booking with Tango Tours, we require a payment of 20% of the ground-based arrangements and 100% of all flights. The remaining balance of your tour is then payable 10 weeks prior to departure. For any bookings made within these 10 weeks, the full amount is payable.
